Lionel Messi has attempted to draw a line under speculation linking him with a move away from Barcelona, saying he will stay at the club as long as they want me.

Talks over a new contract are moving at a glacial pace with his current deal set to expire in 18 months time. Not only that but a Barcelona director recently hinted that they may not be able to afford to pay him the money he wants.

But Messi, who has only ever played for Barcelona in his professional career, seems ready to stay at the Nou Camp for as long as they want him.

Speaking to Coach magazine, Messi said: ‘I have always said that Barcelona has given me everything and I am here for as long as they want me to be.’
